More info

This beautiful vineyard, close to Château Montrose and Calon-Ségur, has a part of very old vines and went through a difficult period in the early 1980s. It is now back to the highest level of quality of the appellation, thanks to the lucidity and courage of its new owner (since 1985) Mr. Xavier Gardinier, who was able to withdraw three defective vintages (1983, 1984, 1985) from the sale and favour traditional cultivation methods. The vines of this vineyard are 47% Merlot, 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Its soil is composed of clayey gravel on a calcareous base. Phélan-Ségur is now regularly hailed as one of the best Saint-Estephe wines, an elegant wine, with an intense and complex nose dominated by red fruits, solid and concentrated in the mouth, with rich and full-bodied tannins that promise good ageing potential.
